What does Smells Fishy do?
You send Smells Fishy a screenshot of a suspicious message, email, or post, and it points out warning signs and patterns the content shows — for example, whether it resembles a known scam pattern. It gives you a read on the signals plus concrete next steps, but it never makes a definitive call. Always verify important things through an official source you find yourself.
How do I check something?
There are three ways to run a check:
- Open the app and pick a screenshot from your photo library.
- From any screenshot, tap the share icon and choose Smells Fishy in the share sheet.
- Use the Smells Fishy shortcut for a quick check right from the Shortcuts app or your Action Button.
Why did my check come back “Can't tell yet”?
Sometimes there isn't enough in a screenshot to point either way — the text may be too short, cropped, or missing the details that usually reveal a pattern. That result is honest, not evasive: it means our checks didn't surface clear signals. If something feels off, treat it carefully and verify through an official channel.
Are there limits?
Quick checks are free with a daily limit. Deep Dives (a slower check that also searches current web sources) use credits — you start with a few for free, and can add more or go Unlimited from the app. TestFlight builds never charge for purchases.
How do shared links work?
When you share a check, Smells Fishy creates a web link that shows the screenshot and the analysis. The screenshot is stored on our servers only for as long as the link is live. Links expire automatically, and you can turn one off at any time from the app: find the scan in History, open it, and choose Manage shared link.
One thing to know: the small preview card that messaging apps show (the verdict headline — never your screenshot) is copied into the chat thread by those apps, so it can stick around even after you turn the link off.
How do I delete my data?
Email us at ajenglehardt81@gmail.com and we'll delete the data associated with your device. You can also turn off any shared links yourself from the app.
Something isn't working.
Try force-quitting and reopening the app first. If the shortcut stopped working, you can reinstall it from Settings inside the app. Still stuck? Email ajenglehardt81@gmail.com with a short description of what happened and roughly when — we'll take a look.
